SMS Enablement

Let's walk you through the initial steps of getting started with Opentact SMS within the Opentact Portal:

Step 1: Sign Up for Your Opentact Account

Visit portal.opentact.org to sign up for a free Opentact account. This grants you access to a multitude of Portal options, allowing you to purchase numbers, set up and manage messaging profiles, and more.

Step 2: Buy an SMS-Capable Phone Number

For successful use of the Messaging API, acquire an SMS-capable phone number from Opentact. Follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the "Numbers" subsection in your Portal.

  2. Under "Search & Buy Numbers," enter your pattern, city, state, or rate center.

  3. Select the SMS features so you can buy Phone Numbers that support SMS

  4. Find the desired number(s) in the search results and click "+Add to Cart."

  5. Access your Cart in the top-right corner and click "Place Order" to complete the purchase.

    Notes:

    • Ensure sufficient credit is available for the purchase. Add credit by clicking the "+" button next to your balance in the top-right corner.

Step 3: Create a Messaging Profile

By default, you have a messaging profile created for you. Messaging Profiles are crucial for configuring inbound and outbound messaging settings. Here's how to enable an SMS-capable phone number:

  1. Go to the "Messaging" section on the left-hand side of your portal.

  2. Click "Add new profile."

  3. Enter a name for your Messaging Profile and configure any necessary settings, such as webhook URLs.

  4. Click "Save" to create the profile.

With these steps, you're set to make the most of Opentact SMS, enabling you to send and receive SMS messages seamlessly. Explore the portal's features, manage your numbers, and configure messaging profiles to tailor your communication experience.
